Startup company WeGlow is going straight to fans of live music to design and fund its new Smartphone app using the crowdsourcing website Kickstarter.com. Fans of live music are a passionate community that seeks out new bands, new venues, and new ways of interacting with the music they love. WeGlow hopes to strengthen these connections with its new Smartphone application.
The WeGlow app connects Smartphones so that they work together creating synchronized color patterns that swirl around a venue, further drawing audience members in to the experience. Linking Smartphones and live music makes sense given that more than 100 million Americans or one in three has a Smartphone according to mobile research firm Comscore.
“Everyone already has their phone with them at a show so we felt that our technology could enhance their experience and make live events more interactive,” says Mike Wilson, Founder and CEO of WeGlow.
In addition to the synchronized color functionality, the WeGlow app will allow anyone within a defined location like a large venue or theater to view a Concert Dashboard displaying useful information like wait times for bathrooms and actual band start times. This information is posted in real time by polling people with the WeGlow app who happen to be standing in line. The dashboard also displays relevant background information about the bands playing that night. WeGlow will run contests and offer games designed to enhance the ticket buyer’s experience at a live show as well as reward people who download the app before the show starts to maximize the audience light show feature.
The WeGlow project on Kickstarter runs until the end of July and is seeking to raise $22,000 to further integrate the currently developed features of WeGlow into a single application. Supporters of the project receive anything from a free version of the final application as it becomes available to having their name appear on each phone running WeGlow when a certain color appears. Names of top contributors will appear on the opening screen as a “founding supporter” and seen by users each time they open the application.
“We believe that music fans that attend live events are eager for ways to enhance their experience and get more value and fun out of the whole experience. These passionate fans are also the ideal community for crowdsourcing,” said Wilson.
